Pain Medicine Specialist and Anaesthetist

Michael grew up in Perth and graduated from medical school at the University of Western Australia. After working in various tertiary hospitals as a junior doctor for 3 years, he pursued specialist training in Anaesthesia for a further 5 years where he developed a special interest in acute and chronic pain management.
Michael then underwent advanced specialist training in Pain Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner and Fiona Stanley Hospital for a further 2 years. He subsequently pursued an Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship to develop and refine his skills in performing minimally-invasive pain procedures for patients suffering from chronic pain.
Michael is passionate in helping his patients get better control of their pain and improve their quality of life. He collaborates with other specialists and allied health professionals to holistically manage your pain. He will listen attentively to your concerns and formulate an appropriate pain management strategy suitable for you.

Michael has a passion for teaching and research. He has a public appointment in the Department of Pain Management at Sir Charles Gairdner where he is actively involved in teaching and training future Pain Specialists. He presented his latest research in Platelet-Rich Plasma at the Australian and New Zealand Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting, and was a lecturer in the University of Western Australia for medical students in the Foundations of Clinical Practice unit.
Michael is the founder of Western Pain and specialises in performing minimally-invasive pain procedures for pain arising from the head, neck, upper and lower back, shoulders, arms, chest, abdomen, groin, hips, knees and feet.

At Western Pain we work with highly qualified, professional and experienced Anaesthetists to provide general anaesthesia and sedation for our pain procedures. Our Anaesthetists also have part-time commitments in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital and Joondalup Private Hospital in addition to their private practice.

You may be sent a questionnaire by our Anaesthetists prior to your procedure. They may contact you by telephone if there are any concerns. Otherwise, our Anaesthetists will see you on the day of the procedure.
Practice Nurse
Yang has more than ten years of nursing experience in acute pain and chronic pain management. She has worked in world renowned pain management centres like Hunter New England Pain Management Centre and Royal North Shore Pain Management and Research Centre before relocating to Perth. She is currently a clinical nurse specialist at St. John of God Murdoch hospital and Western Pain. Yang will be working with Dr Miu to provide the best quality care for our patients.
